Here’s something a lot of us do without even realising it: tell ourselves life will feel lighter and happier once things settle down.
Once business is calmer, once the debt is lower, once the kids are a bit older, once tax season is over, or once we finally feel “caught up.”
I noticed myself doing this recently.
My vision had become clouded by everything I was trying to get through - on what still needed to be done - that I’d stopped properly seeing what I already had.
A business. A family. People I love. Opportunities I used to dream about. And all those ordinary moments that are easy to miss when you’re always waiting for life to feel more sorted.
But the truth is, life doesn’t wait for that perfect window to open. It keeps happening, right here, in the middle of the mess.
Thich Nhat Hanh said it beautifully:
We have fears about the future because we don’t know how it’s going to turn out, and these worries and anxieties keep us from enjoying being here now.
So, maybe there isn’t one final box to tick before we’re allowed to stop worrying, take a breath, enjoy life, or feel proud of how far we’ve come.
Maybe this version of life - messy, unfinished, and uncertain as it may be - is still worthy of our full attention and appreciation.
What if the good old days aren’t behind us?
What if they’re happening right now?
Remember, small steps lead to big wins.
